Birding Classes

Seminole Audubon Society will offer an individual class on Backyard Birds in addition to our 4-session Birding Basics Course. These classes are provided in cooperation with Seminole County Natural Lands Program.

Classes are held at:
Ed Yarborough Nature Center
Geneva Wilderness Area

Cost: $5.00
2 pm — 4 pm

Ever wonder what bird is visiting your yard? Eating at your feeder? Drinking and bathing at your bird bath? How birds are able to sing such intricate songs? This class will teach basic methods of bird identification. We will focus on frequently seen species. Pre-register (see form below), or arrive at 1:30 p.m. on day of class for registration.

SESSION ONE:

Learn to:

Attract birds to your yard through the use of plants, feeders, and nest boxes.

Use bird-watching tools including binoculars, field guides, audio, video, computer guides and journals.

Bring binoculars if you have them.
A short walk to view birds will follow the class

 

 

SESSION TWO:

Learn:
Parts of a bird
Bird silhouettes
Flight patterns
Bird identification techniques
How to look at a bird

Bird-watching practice will follow the class

 

 

SESSION THREE:

Field Trip to Merritt Island National Wildlife Refuge

We will:

Carpool for this half-day trip.

Practice what we've learned at one of the most popular birding spots in the area

View shorebirds, wading birds and (hopefully) roseate spoonbills

 Most viewing will be done from vehicles.

 

 

SESSION FOUR:

We will:

Review any problem areas.

Participate in a practice identification session with audio and visual aids.

Backyard Birds: $5

 

Birding Basics: $30
